Obituary for Ivie Jean Thompson Senecal

Ivie Jean Thompson Senecal age 74 passed away on a beautiful Easter day at the home of her sister, Kathy (Carl) Kester in Cookeville, Tennessee from a lingering illness. She passed away peacefully on 4-16-2017.

She was born in rural Scott County on July 26, 1942 to the late Walter and Texie Jeffers Thompson. She was the second child to be born to this union and five other siblings followed. Life was rough during the depression years for Ivie and the oldest siblings, but she never complained. The hardships followed Ivie throughout her life; no matter the hardships she kept her head high. Always believing there was a better life. In her later years she lived comfortably with her mother and brother, Denzil and was happy.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Senecal, two brothers, Lillard and Dorsey Thompson, three nieces, Shelly Snapp, Cindy Schwass, Shawna Corder and sister in law, Brenda Thompson. Infant brother, Walter David Thompson passed away at three days old. Many aunts and uncles that have passed on before as well.

Ivie was a great landscape artist and won many awards at the Scott County Fair over the years. In her earlier years she loved to cook, bake, and make homemade biscuits and peanut butter candy. She loved to sing gospel music and was very proud that she had the opportunity to have made a cassette tape with the late Jimmy Hill. She was a walking testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. No matter where she was, she never failed to tell someone about the Lord and what he meant to her. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Oneida, TN. She also attended Big Ridge Road Missionary Church for many years. Ivie always attended church from very young age up until her health could not allow her to attend regularly.

Special influences in her life were her Grandfather, Abe Jeffers and Stella Thompson Jeffers. Ivie had a special relationship with each of her siblings and especially her brother, Denzil whom she lived with in Helenwood, TN after the passing of her mother in 2009. Ivie took pride in taking care of her mother up until she passed. She loved her family and especially the new baby, Dustin; son of Dustin and Ashley Thompson. Ivie never failed to give birthday money to her siblings and their children every year. She wanted nothing in return but just their love and a visit occasionally. Ivie’s favorite words were “I love you.”

Ivie went to school in various country schools that included Burchfield School in Oneida and a couple of schools in Indiana and Ohio. Ivie did not like school due to the children making fun of her because she was poor. Ivie lived most of her life in Oneida with the exception of traveling when she married the late Frederick Senecal from New York. For a short time when she was a young child she along with the family lived in Indiana and Ohio.

Survivors include two brothers, Willie (Ellie) Thompson and Denzil (Rhonda) Thompson of Oneida and one sister, Kathy (Carl) Kester of Cookeville, TN. Two nephews, Aron (Rose) Thompson and Dustin (Ashley) Thompson of Oneida. Two nieces, Dorinda Ray and Kimberly Kidd of Oneida. She has two sisters in laws, Pat Rider Thompson of Guilford, Indiana and Marie Slaven of Oneida. A special cousin Dorothy Shoemaker and husband Richard that visited her often and brought home cooked meals which she enjoyed. Many other cousins and relatives survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until time of funeral service at 8:00 P.M., Tuesday Evening, April 18, 2017 in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home, Huntsville, with Bro. Phillip Kazee Officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Ivie had chosen for her final resting place, Carson Memorial Park Mausoleum in Oneida by her brother, Dorsey Thompson.
